Writing your first blog post does not have to be a scary thing; just write from the heart and the rest will follow. But there are a few basic points which you should include in your first post in order to better connect with your readers.
You want to tell the readers a little bit about yourself, your history, and your future goals. You should also give them a clue as to why you are blogging; are you there just to make a few bucks, or, are you passionate about helping others succeed, or do you just want to share your stories for entertainment.
A background story on the topic would prove to your readers that you are passionate about what you are doing, and this will lead to more readers. When telling a story, paint a clear picture in the readers mind by describing the characters, or surroundings.
You could also tell your readers about your future goals for the blog, and where you are headed with the blog; this will help them to decide whether or not they want to stick around.
Also let your readers know what this blog has in store for them; how they will benefit, or how will it help them to grow in knowledge. If you are planning on giving away free stuff, or if you have a newsletter which they can sign up for, now is a good time to make mention of that as well. Many people may only stick around for the free give-aways, but hey, what matters most is that they keep coming back!
But how do you make the blog post interesting?
Well you can start off by saying something like, "Have you ever wondered/tried/thought about...?" or, "Did you know...?" Giving your readers a few queer facts around your market will never fail. You can also add in quotes and statistics and then perhaps expand on them. If humor is your style, start off by telling a good clean joke.
The internet has a wide audience which allows everyone to be unique in their own ways. The main thing is to keep it genuine. If you are not genuine, your readers will pick up on that very quickly, and as a result will not continue to read any more of your blog.
As you are writing your first blog post, you want to keep SEO in mind. This means that you should already have done your keyword research and have a few good keywords in mind. Then add these keywords into your article as many times as you can without sounding ridiculous or spammy. Keywords are used by search engines to find your blog post.
Depending on how much information you have to offer about yourself, or about your future goals, your first blog post may, or may not be a lengthy one. After your first blog post is made, a 250 word article is sufficient therafter.
Last but not least you want to make sure that you read your blog post over several times before posting it online. If there are errors after you post it, your readers will not take you serious.
